The Agawam Cultural Council is an all-volunteer local partner of the Massachusetts Cultural Council -- a state agency -- and is funded, in part, by the MCC. The ACC is charged with bringing engaging, entertaining, and educational events and opportunities in the visual, literary, and performing arts to children and adults from Agawam and the surrounding communities.

Toward this end, in addition to our yearly granting of state funds, our Give Back to the Community Program -- funded entirely by our own local fundraising efforts -- has made possible:
a writing contest open to all Agawam residents with prizes in six categories; full stage productions by Shakespeare & Co. at the Agawam High School, free to both students and the public; the Springfield Symphony Orchestra's Musical Petting Zoo presented to students at each of Agawam's Elementary Schools; the Applause Series -- monthly events from September to May, free and open to the public -- featuring a variety of performers, authors and lecturers; tickets to Majestic Theater Summer Programs for children participating in an Agawam Public Library-held contest; donations to support the Captain Charles Leonard House, the Agawam Public Library and the "Friends of the Agawam Public Library" Juried Art and Photo Shows, the Pioneer Valley Jewish Film Festival, and the St. Patrick's Day Committee's parade float; and we purchase giveaways for children, and raffle prizes for those attending Agawam's SummerFest outdoor concert series.

Past Fundraising efforts include:

Film Festivals presented locally at the Agawam Cinemas.
The Council mounted an assortment of Film Festivals, each screening select films across four weeks. Festival themes included:
Classic (American) Films, Foreign Films, and Great Musicals.

October 14, 2012 - Annual Fundraising Event supporting our Give Back to the Community Program featured a Variety Show format!

After hosting musical concerts for several years to raise funds for our Give Back to the Community Program, in 2012 the Agawam Cultural Council presented something different, in the form of a comedy & musical variety show. The show was scheduled for a single performance at the Agawam Senior Center, and featured something for audiences of every age.
Directing the show were veteran performers Marilene Allen and Lyle Pearson, co-directors of Feeding Hills' Red Door Theatre. The duo assembled a roster of talented local performers -- both young and old -- from singers and dancers, to instrumentalists, puppeteers, magicians, and mimes.
Tickets were just $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and $5 for children, and were first available at the Agawam Cultural Council booth at Agawam's popular SummerFest concert series held at Veterans Green, Main Street, Agawam.


October, 2011 -The Agawam Cultural Council sponsored a special fundraiser to benefit our *Grants for the Arts* program, featuring Jimmy Mazz's fantastic Viva Las Vegas show!


Additonally -- Funds from the purchase of Bus Trip tickets (beyond the cost of the buses themselves) and SummerFest Raffle entries, as well as free-will audience donations from our Applause Series events, are all entirely applied to the various programs and projects we undertake.
